Abstract

Government College Lahore was established in 1864 while the first literary magazine "The Ravi" was published in January 1906 which was published monthly. The publication of Punjabi literature in "The Ravi" began with folk songs. Later, a series of essays, stories, editorials, satire and poetry began, which continues to this day. The publication of modern Punjabi poems in "The Ravi" began in May 1926 and the first Gurmukhi poem "Khoohay Utte" was published which was taken from Professor Pooran Singh's collection of poems "Khulle Maidan". In terms of form, this poem can be considered as the first modern Punjabi poem of "The Ravi". This article gives a detailed overview of the tradition and form of modern Punjabi poem in the magazine "The Ravi".
