Abstract

The twentieth century was a transformative period marked by rapid scientific, industrial, economic, and social changes that significantly reshaped human life and intellectual thought worldwide. These developments profoundly influenced literary expression, giving rise to new themes, stylistic innovations, and critical debates regarding the role and purpose of literature. Urdu literature, including the poetic tradition of Kabirwala, responded actively to these changes through noticeable shifts in language, thematic concerns, and creative outlook. This research-based critical study explores how the twentieth-century poets of Kabirwala utilized poetry as a powerful medium to represent the political, social, and economic realities of their region. Through their poetic expressions, these poets effectively communicated local issues such as poverty, social inequality, class disparity, and religious consciousness to the public, transforming lived experiences into meaningful literary discourse. As a result, Kabirwala’s poetic tradition attained a respected and dignified position within the broader framework of Urdu literature. The poetic works of Biddal Haidri, Khadim Razmi, and Sagar Mashhadi reflect key literary trends of the region, encompassing social awareness, spiritual depth, and reformative vision. Their poetry collectively addresses economic hardship, moral consciousness, and societal reform while maintaining a strong connection with cultural and religious values. Overall, the creative contributions of Kabirwala’s twentieth-century poets demonstrate a synthesis of social commitment, religious devotion, human empathy, and reform-oriented thought. This study concludes that their literary legacy not only mirrors the broader cultural and intellectual movements of the twentieth century but also continues to influence contemporary poetic practices. Moreover, the ongoing poetic activity in Kabirwala indicates that Urdu poetry remains vibrant in the region and is likely to continue flourishing in the future.
