Irfan Siddiqui's Ghazal and Karbala Incident

Abstract

In this article, the intellectual uniqueness of Irfan Siddiqui's ghazal has been clarified with reference to the tradition of Urdu poetry and modern poetry. It has been proved that the incident of Karbala has been described frequently in classical and modern poetry in a direct and symbolic manner, but the way in which it has been presented in Irfan Siddiqui's ghazal is completely different. Irfan Siddiqui has made the incident of Karbala a dominant theme of his ghazal. It is a revolutionary step in living life. In his ghazal, Karbala is a cultural recovery. His ghazal is distinguished from all modern poets of ghazal in terms of intellectual and stylistic aspects.
